Saegim Privacy Policy

1. What Saegim does

Saegim helps you read Korean paper books. Point your phone at a page, tap the screen, and it reads the text at that spot. Tap a word you don't know to see its meaning and how it is used. Words you save can be reviewed and practised later.

2. Your photos never leave your phone

Photos taken with the camera and images chosen from your library are processed entirely on your device. Text recognition is performed by Apple's on-device Vision framework. The images themselves are never uploaded to any server and are never stored by us.

Only the text recognised from the image is sent to our server, for the purposes described in section 3.

3. What we process

3-1. Sent to our server

The recognised text is the content of the book you are reading. It does not include your name, contact details or any other identifying information. However, if you point the camera at personal writing (letters, notes), that text would be transmitted — please do not use Saegim for such material.

3-2. When you sign in

Signing in is optional. All features work without an account; saved words are then stored only on your device.

If you sign in with Apple, Google or Kakao we receive:

your email address
your name or nickname (Apple provides this only on first sign-in, and may not provide it at all)
the account identifier issued by that service

We use this for one purpose only: so your saved words follow you when you change phones. We do not use it for advertising or marketing, and we do not sell it.

3-3. Stored once you are signed in

Saved sentences contain text from the books you photographed. This data is tied to your account and is not visible to other users.

3-4. Usage records

Our server counts, per device identifier, only the daily amount spent and the number of requests. What you photographed and which words you tapped are not recorded here. This exists for two reasons:

to stop a malfunction or automated tool from exhausting the service for everyone
to produce the statistics needed to set pricing and fair-use limits

4. Third parties and processors

We do not sell personal information. We rely on the following processors:

Anthropic does not use content submitted through its API to train its models (per its service terms as of September 2026). Policies can change; please refer to each provider's current policy.

These providers may operate servers outside the Republic of Korea (including in the United States), so your data may be transferred internationally.

5. Shared explanation data

Once a meaning, usage note or sentence translation has been generated, it is kept on our server so that all users share it — the same word is never paid for twice.

What is kept: words and phrases with their explanations, and sentence translations
**Original sentences are stored only as an unrecoverable value (a hash); the sentence text itself is not retained.** Note, however, that a translation naturally conveys the content of the original.
No information about who photographed it is attached to this data.

6. Retention

Account and saved words: deleted without delay when you delete your account.
Usage records: aggregated by date and deleted after 90 days.
Shared explanation data (section 5): retained indefinitely, as it cannot identify an individual.

7. Your rights

You can delete your account inside the app — Settings → Account → Delete account. This removes your account and the saved words held on our server.
Data on your device is removed when you delete the app.
You may request access, correction, deletion or restriction of processing. Contact us at the address below.

8. Children

Saegim is not directed at children under 14, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

9. Security

All communication with our server is encrypted (HTTPS).
Account data is restricted so that only you can read and write it.
Access is limited to what operations require.
